How do I take care of copper/silver/gold barware? Don't I need to polish it?

Any item of bar or kitchenware that is gold-plated, silver-plated, copper-plated (or solid copper, as in our case) requires a little more care than stainless steel to keep it looking new.

Copper and fine-metal plated items will develop a natural patina over time as they’re exposed to their environments, (or forgotten in a puddle of water) which some people might prefer. But they can also be kept looking shiny and new with a few simple cleaning routines.

If you’re using these items frequently, they shouldn’t need to be polished often - using them regularly, and rinsing and drying them after each use should be all the care they need. We’ll send detailed care and cleaning instructions out with our backers. Essentially, you don’t want them to sit in water, so it’s best to hand-wash them in warm water and dry them right away. Also, don’t use abrasive cleaners or sponges, as these can scratch the finish.

If your jigger does get forgotten, or your grand-kids find it some day in a box of bar keepsakes in the garage, there is a proper way to clean tarnished items with a metal polish (we’ll give you all those details too).

How Do I Add-On additional items or pledges?

You can add items to your original Kickstarter pledge when you fill out your Kickstarter Survey. There will be a section of the survey called “Add Ons” where you’ll be able to select additional jiggers, t-shirts, and other barware we make.

How do I designate what my extra Kickstarter funds are for?

If you added on to your pledge on Kickstarter to get more than one thing, you’ll be able to designate what your extra funds are for while completing your Kickstarter survey. There will be a section of the survey called “Add Ons” where you can select which additional items you want.

How do I designate whether I want a Metric (ml) or Imperial (oz) jigger?

When you fill out your survey, pre-order an item, or add an item to your pledge, you’ll select whether you want a jigger with oz or ml markings.

Oops - my payment failed on Kickstarter. How do I fix it?

If your payment failed on Kickstarter, and you missed the window to update your payment method, you can still update it on Backerkit (it’s ok, it happens!). Just remember that all payments via Backerkit will be held and cards will be charged about one month before we ship (around April 2018!).

When is my card charged for things I add-on or pre-order in Backerkit?

Any payments collected via Backerkit for add-ons, pre-orders, or failed payments will be held and charged to your card one month before we ship items (estimated May 2018).

What if I need to update my survey answer or address before you ship?

You will be able to update your shipping address, pledge details and add-ons up until one month before items ship. We will send you a notice before we lock everything down so you won’t miss the window to make updates.

Why are there additional shipping costs?

As special thanks for our Kickstarter Backers, you can add any jigger or t-shirt to your existing Kickstarter pledge for no additional shipping costs. If you want to add any of our other tools, it will cost a little more to ship (because they are heavy and/or larger). But we know that you’ve already paid some shipping costs via Kickstarter, and have reduced the additional shipping rate with that in mind.

Why do I have a credit?

There are several reasons why you might have a credit displayed after answering your survey:

1) If you added funds to your Kickstarter pledge for extra items, those funds will show as a credit. Use the credited funds in the Add Ons section to designate your extra items.

2) If you added a t-shirt to your Kickstarter pledge, you may still have a credit even after you select the t-shirt as an Add On. We dropped the price for t-shirts to $20 after the Kickstarter ended (read Update #7 for why), and wanted to say thanks to those Kickstarter Backers who supported us at the $25 price point with a $5 credit. You can use the credit toward other Add Ons. If you want, you can toss it in the virtual tip jar or leave it with us, and we might send you a little something special later on ;)

3) If you switch reward levels from a higher pledge amount to a lower pledge amount during the survey process, you’ll have a credit that you can use toward other items.

4) Kickstarter Backers who pledged at the Silver Napier Jigger Reward level and have CANADA as their shipping address will have a $5 credit also - when we were setting up reward levels we inadvertently left out the $10 Canadian shipping level, so you guys paid $15 for shipping. You can use the credit toward additional items, drop it in the tip jar, or message us on Kickstarter for a refund (sorry!)

5) I suppose you might also see a credit if your pledged on Kickstarter to have your reward delivered to an international destination, but are changing your address to domestic during the survey.

What to Do with the credit? Use it toward additional Add Ons or drop it in our virtual tip jar as a way to tell us we did a good job :)

When will my items ship?

All Kickstarter items (Napier Jiggers, Jigger shirts, and Benefactor Packages) will ship in June 2018.

Any items you add-on to your Kickstarter Pledge or pre-order here on Backerkit will ship at the same time. Right now that is estimated to be in June 2018. This is a great way to combine items into one order to save on shipping (especially helpful for our international backers).

PLEASE NOTE: Certain Add-On items are products that we currently have for sale on our website, www.standardspoon.com. If you want those items to ship prior to June 2018, please purchase them from our website, and they will ship out within 2 business days. These items include the Hammered Mixing Glass, Wingman Cocktail Spoon, Maple Muddler, Ebony Muddler, and Pitcher Protector.

How do I change my items to get Authentic Gold / Authentic Silver Jiggers?

If you pledged for or added on a Gold or Silver Napier Jigger, you’ll need to decide whether to upgrade to authentic Silver for +$5, or to authentic Gold for +$10.

Not sure why? For the backstory, read Update #10 and Update #11 on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/workofmyhands/the-napier-jigger-a-vintage-cocktail-measuring-cup/updates.

The short story: During the manufacturing process, we discovered that we had been mis-quoted for gold and silver plating, and the prices we set for gold and silver jiggers on Kickstarter were based on gold and silver alloys (not real precious metal plating). The cost for authentic gold and silver plating is extremely high. We communicated the challenge to backers, and reached a cost-share solution where we cover some of the expense of the increase. For those backers who care about authentic gold and silver plating, you have the option to upgrade to the precious metal plating at the cost of +$5 for silver and +$10 for gold.

That brings the backer price to $32 for Authentic Silver ($40 retail) and $45 for Authentic Gold ($55 retail).

Your default selection will be Gold Alloy or Silver Alloy. You MUST update your selection if you want to receive Authentic Gold and/or Authentic Silver.

To upgrade to real gold or real silver for your jiggers, log in to your Backerkit account, select the item you want to upgrade, and under the “Finish” menu, select either Silver/Gold Alloy, or Authentic Gold/Silver. If you upgrade to Authentic Gold or Silver, you may need to update your payment amount to cover the increase.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
